This is really Xavier Veilhan’s first film as such. He took advantage of the situation (a relative innocence and lightness of the production) to return to the first applications of cinema for both science and entertainment (Marey, Mumière, Méliès). As in his sculptural pieces, Veilhan likes to make up his work of little scenes, punctuated by combat and dance.

« This is my first use of Film( as a media) , I wanted to use very little means : the tricks are actually built on the set instead of digitally post producted. « Le film du Japon » refears to the very beginnig of the use of cinema by both  science  and entertainment.
The film has been shot during my stay in May 2002 at the CCA , Kitakyushu (Japan).
It is a mixture of folkloristic dance, actual time construction, cinetical effects, between a recipe for building sculptures and a circus act.
The Film is 8 minutes and 30 seconds. There is no sound, no narrative and almost no chronology. »
